Greensboro’s Funky Fourth Celebration
Freedom and Unity
The Parade:
Grand Marshal Clive Gray’s Pierce Arrow and our Ladies Walking Society set the pace leading the menagerie down Breezy Avenue.
The parade featured
• Small and big-time politicians
• Honeybee Steel Band
• Bread and Puppet Theater
•Greensboro’s Lawn Mower Brigade
•Eclectic organizational floats
•Mega farm equipment
•Greensboro’s Road Crew and Fire Department.
The Picnic:
The parade transitioned into a free community feast on the lawn of the Town Hall. 700+ sandwiches, grilled sausages and hot dogs plus Kingdom Creamery cones was consumed. All food was generously funded by Greensboro Association. Additional home-made delights were available at the accompanying Farmers’ Market.
The Auction:
Local desserts and Vermont art contributions at the accompanying silent auction generated $3,500 from the parade and picnic goers . All proceeds were passed onto the Hardwick Area Food Pantry.
Dunk Tank:
It was fun, funny and a crowd pleaser. People paid $5 for a chance to dunk their favorite politician, family member or local personality. Another $500 was generated for the Food Pantry.
Book Sale:
The Greensboro Free Library had it biggest one day sale of “lightly-read” books ever. Sales and donations generate over $1,400 to support our precious library.
The Concert:
To complete our “Freedom and Unity” celebration, the 75 member Vermont Philharmonic Orchestra playing lively and appropriate music entertained 400 listeners for free at an evening outdoor venue at Highland Center for the Arts.
