Dear Greensboro Members and Friends:

I wish all our members and potential members who may be reading this
newsletter for the first time all the best for 2009 and good health and
prosperity in the coming year. Prosperity can be measured in a number of
ways, and for the Greensboro Association, prosperity is in the health and
richness of the organization particularly in the diversity and strength of
its membership and in the growth of those residents and visitors who are
attracted to its work, activities and may want to join.
Communication between the Association and members and outreach from the
Association to Greensboro and beyond has never been so important. At this
time we need to attract a wider range of members of all ages and connect
with those who participate in the life of Greensboro but who until now have
chosen not to join. It is to this end that the Board initiated two specific
efforts last year.

It has fully supported an overhaul and redesign of the Greensboro
Association’s website to reflect the increasing access to and use of the web
by many members and the potential for this to give the Association a broader
exposure. A committee consisting of Linda Ely, Robb Twiss, John Schweizer,
Margaret Daniels, Michael Porrazzo and chaired by John C. Stone III have
prepared and launched a revised and more interactive site, and there are
plans to add further content and links to many of the Association’s and
Greensboro’s organizations and activities. I urge you to check the updated
website at www.greensboroassociation.org and in particular to register, post
your comments and thoughts and add your images of Greensboro in all seasons.
I would like to thank the web committee and in particular to John Stone for
his technical expertise and leadership in this effort.

The second initiative supported by the Association and led by Andy Dales and
Annie Paumgarten is to significantly alter and update the community booklet
on Caspian Lake and its environs with sustainable approaches to the lake’s
protection, use and enhancement.  To be titled- ’50 Ways to Preserve and
Enhance Caspian Lake’ it will contain useful information and web links and
is to made available on-line and as a hard copy before the vacation season
starts in early summer. Hard copies will be made available for home-owners,
boat owners, fisherman, renters and all those interested at the Town Hall,
Library, Post Office and The Willey’s Store. Thanks are due to Annie for
initiating the project and to Andy for adding and coordinating so much of
his knowledge about the lake into this document.

Please mark your calendar for the annual meeting on Monday August 17, 2009
at 7.30pm in Fellowship Hall. We intend to allow significantly more time for
questions and discussion by the membership on these initiatives and other
current activities and I hope that many of you can attend.

Finally, complete and return the enclosed membership form with your dues of
$20.00 plus your usual generous donation to support the work of the
Association. It is the community of members that will allow the Association
to further its mission to the benefit of all Greensboro.

Sincerely yours,
Niall Kirkwood
