Dear Greensboro Property Owner:

The Greensboro selectboard has a revised policy regarding driveway snow plowing.  In the past the town has contracted with Brian Perry & Sons to plow the driveways.  If the drives drifted or had too much snow in them for their pickup trucks to plow, the town would use its road equipment to open or widen the driveways.  The town would also occasionally open a driveway that wasn't regularly plowed for a summer resident who was coming up for a short time in the winter.

The selectboard no longer intends to use any town equipment outside of the road right of way.  We believe that this will help to limit our liability and reduce road crew overtime costs.

The Perrys will continue to plow driveways, but if there is excessive snow or drifting or if a driveway needs to be opened with a bucket loader before the pickups can plow, it will be the responsibility of the property owner to arrange to have this done by a private contractor and to pay for it.

Sincerely,

Jefferson Tolman

Snow plowing the driveways
As I sit down to pay my taxes as a non-resident (gasp!) I have a suggestion that I think is worth considering: For those of us who do not have our driveways/private roads plowed by the town (as part of the value in our taxes), why not offer road grading on those private roads going to so many cottages? It seems fair and reasonable considering how little we otherwise cost the town. Hmmm. Just a thought. Please consider.
